“The only time I can talk to you is noon exactly, Bela,” Flack said as he finished up his coffee. She’d stopped by the pay him an unexpected visit on his way to work and he was already running late. “I had made plans with Danny but they got cancelled. Rest of my day is entirely filled up.”

“With what?” she asked, genuinely curious.

“Work. I have an open case right now and I’d really like to get it solved because it looks like it could be a serial.”

“Well, then, I wish you the best of luck,” she said. “And I shall meet you at noon. At the precinct?”

“How about I meet you at your place?” he said, grabbing his suit jacket off the back of his chair and herding her towards the door.

“Why, Detective, are you going to try something today?” she asked with a slight smirk as he opened the door.

“Only if whatever you tell me doesn’t take an hour to tell,” he said with a slight grin.

“Then I’ll try to be as brief as possible,” she said, stopping in her tracks and looking at him. She had a gleam in her eye, and when she pulled him into a kiss he didn’t stop her, even if he was running late. This was something he didn’t want to pass up. When it finally ended, she took a step back and then walked down the hallway. “I will see you later, Detective,” she called back behind her.

He watched her walk away for a moment before locking up his door, smile on his face. It was getting some taking used to, but he was beginning to like having Bela in his life.

Most days, anyway.

He knocked on her apartment door a few hours later and listened to the sounds as she came to the door. When she opened it she looked troubled. “Everything okay, Bela?” he asked as she moved out of the way so he could come in.

“I was resting earlier and I had another dream,” she said with a sigh as she shut the door. “I don’t want to talk about it just yet, though. This is something everyone needs to hear. I’m only waiting for Malachi to arrive at an inopportune moment. Blasted angel does love to surprise me.”

He went over and put an arm around her shoulder as a silent sign of comfort. He was only slightly surprised when she turned into him, resting her cheek against his chest and wrapping her arms around his waist. They had been getting closer; he accepting his offered comfort was just another step in the process, and he was glad it was happening.

“I wanted to talk to you earlier about something that seems much less important now,” she said, her voice muffled slightly. “I wanted to talk to you about us, and where we stand.”

He pulled her away from him slightly. “Bela, in what you saw, did someone die? One of us?” he asked quietly.

“No, not that. Thankfully. It was just very disturbing, and it will cause more problems for Connor than any of us, which in turn creates problems for the rest of them.”

“Good,” he said with a sigh of relief.

“It’s still bad news,” she said, looking at him with a slight smirk. “Sure you should be happy?”

He grinned down at her. “See, that’s the Bela I know. Sarcastic quip at the ready.”

“It is something I’m known for, isn’t it?” she mused, before pulling her arms away from him. “So, about us.”

“What about us?” he asked as she stepped away and moved towards her kitchen.

“What are we?”

“Two consenting adults who enjoy spending time together and have great sex?” he suggested.

“That sounds suspiciously like a relationship,” she said as she pulled down a glass from her cupboard and went to get some water. “I’ve never been in one before, really, other than that one time I thought I was going to get saved. But I don’t think that would be a relationship like the one we possibly have.”

“No, it wouldn’t be,” he said. “If we’re in a relationship, Bela, it won’t be like that. I can promise you that.”

“I know. But I’m worried about how I’ll react, and things like that.” She took a sip of water. “This entire situation I’ve found myself in feels unusual and at times I wonder why I’m involved at all. And I mean more the situation between you and me than the situation we find ourselves in with everyone else.”

He nodded slowly. “I know why I’m involved. I like you. You’ve grown on me, and I like spending time with you.”

“So, for you, it isn’t just about the sex?”

He shook his head. “If it was just about the sex, I wouldn’t keep trying to get to know you.”

She nodded and stayed quiet for a few moments. “I…care about you,” she said quietly. “I don’t want to hurt you. And part of me worries I will, someday.”

“We can keep working on things between us,” he said. “And I’ll let you know if you hurt me. But just so you know, it takes a lot to make me give up on someone I want in my life.”

“Then I hope I don’t disappoint you,” she said, setting down the glass of water.

“So…you’re okay if we’re in a relationship?”

“It could be much worse. You could be Dean Winchester,” she said with a smirk. “That would have been a very masochistic relationship. With you, I feel…normal. And that’s very nice.” She went over to him and wrapped her arms around his neck. He settled his hands on her waist. “So, tell me. That took maybe ten minutes. What would you like to do for the last fifty that you’re allowed to be away from work today?”

“I don’t think I’d mind heading towards the bedroom,” he said with a grin, one that was readily returned by her.

“Then let’s get started, shall we?” she asked before leaning in to kiss him and moving him towards the bedroom. His last truly coherent thought was that a relationship with Bela would be interesting and unpredictable, but he knew damn well that he would enjoy it as long as it lasted.

I love this too. And I love the way you write them together. I can really hear their voices.
